What I Got For Christmas in 2016

Hello, beautiful - and welcome back to Haley Marie! I hope you had a merry everything and enjoyed spending time with friends and family over the holiday.

After Christmas, I always love being nosy and finding out what other people got as gifts. It's not that I'm looking to compare myself to others - it's just that I'm genuinely curious! Everyone is different, and everyone's family celebrates the holidays differently, so I like the insight into how friends and fellow bloggers spent their Christmas morning. Plus, seeing some of the cool items that others got helps me start writing a list for my birthday/next Christmas!

So, in case you're like me and love to see what other people got for Christmas, I'm sharing some of the highlights of my holiday in this post. I won't include unnecessary items like pajamas, candy, etc., but I'll show you some of my favorite beauty, fashion, and just generally thoughtful presents from this year and share some of the stories that go along with them.

e.l.f. Cosmetics Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder in St. Lucia

Ryan and I agreed on a set of rules early on for Christmas this year: we would each buy each other one gift, costing no more than $30.00, and make one gift from scratch. Well, when it came to the store-bought gifts this year, we were both incredibly lazy; we each picked out our own gift for the other one to order on Black Friday. He chose a pair of gaming headphones from Amazon, while I asked for $30.00 worth of makeup sets from e.l.f. - a drugstore beauty brand I'd been dying to try!

Anyways, that long-winded introduction leads me to my main point, which is that this beauty brand is a steal for the value you get for your money. This blush has been compared to NARS' coveted Orgasm shade, but at $4.00, costs only a fraction of the price. I've already had a chance to use this product and personally, I love the way this shade looks on my fair skin. More than that, the slight shimmer and the peachy sheen make this product ultra-flattering for all skin tones. I can totally see this shade working on almost anyone, from dark skinned to light.

e.l.f. Everyday Smoky Eyeshadow Palette

This palette is another steal. For just $10.00, you get 10 shades of shadow for a subtly smoky sheen. Even though it's not as great as e.l.f.'s lip or cheek products, I definitely think this palette is worth its price. I've used some of the nude shades already, and while they aren't as heavily pigmented as pricier shadows (such as my favorites from Urban Decay's Naked 3 and Naked Basics palettes), they're great for someone like me, who prefers a touch of color over a dark smoky eye.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Eye Shadow Collection

Today I bought this palette at my local Sephora using some gift cards I got from my aunt and cousins in Arkansas. While I haven't had the chance to use it yet, I'm in love with the shimmery nude shades. (In case you couldn't tell already, I'm a big fan of natural eyeshadow!) One of the coolest parts about this palette is that you can either use the shades to create one of three recommended looks, for absolutely zero guesswork involved - or, if you're feeling a little more on the wild side, you can combine them in any way you want.

While I'm honestly a bit sad to be ruining the pristine, untouched look of the shadow pots (yup, I'm weird like that), I can't wait to use this palette for the first time tomorrow or later this week. Since Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy is one of my go-to favorites, I'm especially excited to try the more glittery shadows like Silk Teddy, Push-Up, and Honeypot.

e.l.f. Complete Coverage Concealer in Light

I picked out this concealer palette because it reminded me of Benefit's Bo-oing concealer, which I used to love but simply can't afford to keep buying now that I'm in college. Having tried it a few times already, I definitely think this product could be considered a fair dupe for the Benefit one. The coverage with the e.l.f. one is comparable, if not better - I especially love the fact that I can use a lighter shade of concealer for my under-eyes, a darker one to cover up acne, or blend them together to create my own custom shade. The only downside to this concealer is that the texture is a bit greasy to apply, especially compared to a creamier formula like Benefit's. However, for the inexpensive price of $3.00, I can honestly say I was shocked by how well this product performed!

e.l.f. Velvet Matte Lipstick in Berry Bordeaux

Honestly, when Ryan and I picked out our own presents on Black Friday, I was most excited to get my hands on this sexy shade of lipstick from e.l.f. Now that it's finally mine, I can't stop raving about the color! I have wanted to get in on the dark lip trend for quite some time now, but just couldn't find the perfect affordable product. For fair-skinned girls like myself, I can honestly say that Berry Bordeaux is the flawless shade I was looking for. I've already worn it twice since Christmas Eve, when Ryan and I exchanged gifts, and I'm sure the tube will be worn dry by next Christmas!

e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick in Party in the Buff

I love a light pink nude lip with long lashes and a flirty cat eye. Honestly, I think this lipstick might be a touch too light for my skin tone (I'm pale, but not translucent), but even so, the creamy, moisturizing formula makes this product worth it. I won't go so far as to say it's my new "my lips but better" shade - nor do I like it more than the Berry Bordeaux color - but I do admit that it's well-formulated and flattering, even if it makes my lips look a bit pale.

e.l.f. Cream Eyeliner in Black

Having never used a cream eyeliner formula before (I'm more of a pen gal myself), I was eager to try this product and see what everyone had been raving about. Honestly, now that I've tried it, I'm not sure I'm jumping on the bandwagon just yet. Maybe it's just the e.l.f. formula, but I found the cream to be more gray than black, and much less richly pigmented than the liquid formulas I'm used to. Admittedly, I haven't quite gotten the hang of using the little angled eyeliner brush yet, so I'm going to have to give this product a bit more practice before I give it my full review - but for now, I'm feeling decidedly meh about giving up my Milani liquid eyeliner in favor of this cream formula.

e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator

e.l.f.'s lip exfoliator was another product I'd never tried from any line, not just theirs - and I have got to say, I think it's one of my all-time favorites now! I wasn't sure how well I expected this product to deliver on what it promised, but I can honestly say that this exfoliator gently scraped away all my dead, chapped skin. The lip exfoliator was simple to use, hydrated as well as exfoliated, and didn't hurt. Plus, I'm pleasantly surprised to add, it tastes like brown sugar, too! Overall, this product is an amazing everyday treat to use right before you apply a richly pigmented lipstick - such as my new favorite, e.l.f.'s Berry Bordeaux.

e.l.f. EX-tra Lip Gloss in Michael

First of all, can I just say that it's adorable that they named these lip glosses after men, instead of the usual hackneyed girls' names like Ashley and Bridget? I definitely think it's awesome that e.l.f. is one of the first cosmetics companies I've seen to acknowledge that girls aren't the only ones wearing makeup anymore! Secondly, I haven't had the chance to try this lip gloss out for myself yet, but I'm super excited about this dark, rosy shade. The only thing I can think to compare it to is Urban Decay's Naked Lip Gloss in Beso, which I got as part of the limited edition Naked on the Run palette that was available not too long ago - we'll see how this one stacks up as a dupe!

e.l.f. Lip Lock Pencil

To be completely honest, I've tried this lip lock pencil a few times already - each time I've worn one of my brand-new e.l.f. lipsticks - and I'm not completely convinced I'm using it right. However, this product seems to do what it claims, which is to keep your lipstick locked in place and prevent it from feathering into the fine lines around your lips. According to the website, you can use this clear pencil to fill in fine lines and trace the outline of your mouth before putting on lipstick. Additionally, I've found that it's helpful as a sort of makeup eraser, for cleaning up some of those mistakes after you've put on a dark shade of lipstick. For just $3.00, I definitely think this product is well-worth the price of a flawless bold lip!

Too Cool for School 1/2 Dozen Egg Cream Mask Set

Embarrassing for a beauty blogger, but 100% true: I'm only just now getting around to trying some of the Korean beauty products I've heard wonders about. This isn't the first time I've used Too Cool for School's products before - I bought their Egg Mousse Soap at Sephora last Christmas, to use with my Clarisonic - but it is the first time I've tried any of their sheet masks. In fact, I've only really used sheet masks one other time, like, ever! However, I'm definitely excited to sample Too Cool for School's egg cream masks.

The gift set comes with two of each variety: Hydrating, Firming, and Pore-Tightening, all of which will serve me well given my oily-dry combination skin. Ryan and I love to do face masks together, so I imagine these will come in handy the next time we want to throw on a movie and pamper ourselves over break.

Bath and Body Works Fine Fragrance Mist in Warm Vanilla Sugar

Bath and Body Works' Warm Vanilla Sugar is my go-to fragrance for everyday life - so you can imagine how stoked I was to see that Ryan's family had bought me tons of Bath and Body Works goodies for Christmas this year! Sadly, I left these gifts at my dad's house, so I wasn't able to photograph them for y'all - but as college girls, I'm sure we're all familiar with that shiny gold packaging.

I'm not a fancy perfume kind of gal, so nothing makes me happier than a little bit of Bath and Body Works! Among the collection they generously gifted me was the Fine Fragrance Mist in Warm Vanilla Sugar. When it comes to Bath and Body Works, I tend to prefer the fragrance mists to the perfumes because they're cheaper, less heavily concentrated, and don't assault your nostrils quite as strongly. Plus, this is my usual everyday scent anyways, so it just goes to show how well his family knows me after all this time :)

Bath and Body Works Body Lotion in Warm Vanilla Sugar

The body lotion came as part of the gift set from Ryan's family. When it comes to total body hydration, I tend to prefer creams to lotions; however, Bath and Body Works lotion is the perfect thing to keep in your backpack for school or at your desk at work or home to slather on your hands or feet when they're feeling a bit dry. Bonus points for sticking with the Warm Vanilla Sugar theme - I love when people buy all their products in the same scent. It just makes me feel so put together to smell like Warm Vanilla Sugar from head-to-toe!

Bath and Body Works Shower Gel in Warm Vanilla Sugar

I went through a phase when I was in middle and high school where all I would wash my body with was shower gel from Bath and Body Works. Now that I'm in college, that habit is a bit too pricey for me to sustain (not to mention that it costs $5.00 extra to get from campus to the Bath and Body Works in downtown Boston and back). That's another reason why it was great to get this basket of goodies from Ryan's fam: it was a total throwback to one of my favorite things from when I was younger, as well as an awesome way to treat myself after a long day!

Bath and Body Works Ultra Shea Body Cream in Warm Vanilla Sugar

When I said I got a lot of stuff from Bath and Body Works, I seriously wasn't kidding. I spent the morning after Christmas in and out of the bathtub testing a wide array of products in every shade of Warm Vanilla Sugar you could possibly imagine. I'm pretty sure I walked out of the bathroom smelling like a Christmas cookie. Wet hair, don't care.

Anyways, of all the products I tested, this body cream is one of my favorites. My dry skin is always in need of a hydrating, soothing body cream during the harsh winter months. Often I neglect to moisturize my body until the damage is already done, so I always need a skin cream that can absorb quickly and work double-duty on my dry, cracked skin - particularly around problem areas like my elbows and knees. This Ultra Shea Body Cream does exactly that, without leaving my skin overly sticky or shiny - making it the perfect, hardworking moisturizer for tough New England winters.

Bath and Body Works Luxury Bubble Bath in Warm Vanilla Sugar

Taking a bubble bath is one of the most luxurious pleasures on the planet, as far as I'm concerned - and as a college student who's been doomed to a life of shower shoes for the past few months, it's a pleasure I'm eager to enjoy while I still have the chance. Thankfully, I got this Luxury Bubble Bath from Bath and Body Works for Christmas this year, so I was able to treat myself to a long, relaxing bath on Christmas morning.

While the scent of this bubble bath is heavenly, and the creamy formula left my skin smooth and soft (not dry or dehydrated at all), my only complaint is that the bubble bath doesn't stretch as far as I'd like it to. I had to use about a third of the bottle to froth up just one bath, meaning that your $14.00 bottle doesn't last more than a handful of uses. I guess you could say that this bubble bath truly is a special luxury!

Fashion

Hunter Original Tall Gloss Rain Boots

In case you couldn't tell from their sneaky appearance in my women's gift guide, these boots were the big ticket item on my Christmas wishlist this year. I've never owned a pair of rain boots before, but quickly discovered how desperately I needed a pair with all the walking I've done to and from classes back at BU. Honestly, given their hefty price tag, I wasn't expecting to find them under the tree - so it was an awesome surprise to unbox these glossy, gorgeous boots! While they're a bit tall on me (I'm only 5'1"), I love everything about them, from the sassy heel to the practical waterproof rubber. I predict you'll have a hard time tearing me away from these boots during the wet New England winter.

Abercrombie and Fitch Women's Color Block Puffer Jacket

Fun fact: this jacket claims to be an online exclusive, but I bought it in-store for the same price! For Christmas this year, my dad bought me an Abercrombie and Fitch gift card for $50.00 instead of trying to pick out clothes for me himself. So, on Monday, when Ryan and I went shopping with our brand-new gift cards, I discovered this adorable $144.00 jacket on sale for just $56.00 and knew I had to spring for it. Because I'm short, the bomber style worked perfectly for me - it was just the right length, which is a rare find in a jacket, and warm and downy without feeling too bulky. If you're taller than I am or have an especially long torso, I imagine this jacket may leave your midriff feeling a bit chilly; however, as a short gal, I loved the cute crop and look forward to (finally) wearing a warm jacket that doesn't make me feel like a tiny marshmallow.

Grey Mossimo Cardigan

One of the most creative Christmas gifts I got this year was actually a bunch of Target gift cards from my mom - and here's why. Instead of simply handing me the gift cards or awkwardly wrapping them and putting them under the tree, my mom created a scavenger hunt with clues that she hid all around the main floor of the house. So instead of unwrapping my Target gift cards, I had to go searching for them! I found them in creative hiding places like the back of the Christmas tree, taped inside one of our Christmas cards on the wall, and even buried beneath the bowlful of red and green m'n'ms we always keep on our kitchen table this time of year.

Most of the gift card cash I'm saving for when school comes back around, but I had a couple of errand-type things to pick up the other day, so I decided to have a look through some of my favorite sections. I found this cute cardigan buried inside the women's clearance rack and just couldn't say no. Actually, I'm wearing it as I type this post! I love that this cardigan is long and warm without feeling overly-bulky or overwhelming my small frame. Plus, at less than $15.00, the sale price was a steal I couldn't turn down!

Lacy Green Socks

Having spoiled the surprises of our big gifts this year, Ryan and I decided to do a stocking challenge for each other this year, where we each bought $20.00 worth of stocking stuffers to surprise the other with. Ryan cheated, because he added a $20.00 Dunkins gift card to my stocking, but I was more than excited to unpack all the goodies he gave me. Among the mix were these adorable socks from Five Below, which, as you can see from the photo, are military green with a sweet lace hem. I love socks like these  - not to mention, they're even more appropriate since we saw ones just like them watching Shark Tank together the other day. Even more than that, I love that I'm dating such a sweet guy who understands my love of style all too well!

Misc.

11.6 in. MacBook Air

This was the major item on my Christmas list this year, and the one thing I wanted more than anything. As a college student and a blogger, I'm generally pretty glued to my laptop. The problem was, my old one was getting way too heavy to heave across campus. This MacBook Air solved all of those problems for me. It's light enough and small enough to throw in a tote bag. Instead of having to carry around a big, bulky computer in my backpack, I can now simply carry my handbag around campus. Plus, being a blogger, I'm especially excited about learning all the cool software and add-ons I can use to optimize my laptop for blogging! Hopefully you guys will soon start to notice the difference that having a high-tech, portable laptop will make for Haley Marie :)

Dabney Lee Ink Pen

Stationery is my one true weakness in life. Clearly, my dad knows that, because he bought me this adorable pen for Christmas this year. This pen is a little bulky to write with, if I'm being completely honest, but I love the cute navy polka dots and how fancy it feels. Having such a high-quality pen that writes in rich black ink truly makes me feel like an adult, once and for all. Plus, it comes with a matching magnetic case, so I'll never have the problem of having to fish a working pen out of the dark abyss that is my handbag...

Harry Potter Miniature Coloring Kit

Real talk: this item was a total impulse buy from Target. I had been eyeing it on the shelf for as long as I could remember (seeing as I'm the kind of gal who likes to ask restaurants for a kid's menu and an adult menu, so I can fill in all the word searches and stuff), so when I discovered it was 20% off the other day, I knew I just had to have it. Needless to say, I went for it, and I look forward to slipping this tiny coloring kit in my bag and using it to bust boredom at restaurants, in waiting rooms, and all those pesky situations with nothing to do.

Color-Your-Own Greeting Cards

My dad bought me this set of color-your-own greeting cards for Christmas this year, and I'm obsessed. I've already started to fill in some of the holiday designs to write thank you cards for my grandparents and for Ryan's family. I especially love that all of the greeting cards come with matching, color-your-own envelopes to make snail mail all the more exciting. I love getting mail, so hopefully I can use some of these cards to write to some of my friends at school (or maybe start a penpal program with some of my fellow bloggers?) and start getting some cute 'n' quirky mail back in return!

Felt-eez Felt Tip Markers

Last but not least, these cute felt-tip markers were another one of Ryan's stocking stuffers from Five Below. I haven't had the chance to write with them yet, but I love the rich variety of colors and can't wait to start using them in all my creative pursuits. I plan to use them to fill in color-your-own greeting cards, accentuate my scrapbook (if I ever get around to finishing up those scrapbook pages I've got planned), and maybe even to add a little color to my brand-new planner.

My Winter Break Routine

Disclaimer: All of the opinions expressed in this post regarding brands and products are my own.
I was not compensated for this post in any way.

Hello, beautiful - and welcome back for Day 22 of Blogmas! After a grueling week of finals, I'm finally home with my family and eagerly awaiting Christmas morning. I can't wait to make that last post on December 25th and share my holiday with you.

Until then, we've got just a couple more days of Blogmas to go. Today, after running a poll on Twitter (are you following me @haleymarieblog yet?), I decided to write about what a day in my life looks like while I'm at home on break.

Yesterday, I chronicled an entire day in my life for your enjoyment, complete with photos of my morning beauty routine, groceries, and more. Now, I'm lounging on the couch in front of one of my favorite movies (Clueless, of course) with some decaf coffee brewing in the background, typing up my daily routine.

Warning: it's probably not as exciting as you might think....

Morning

9:30 AM - I woke up, a bit earlier than I did the day before. I haven't been using an alarm while I'm home because I figure break is one of my only chances to catch up on sleep, which is why I'm up so late.

Every day, the first thing I do when I wake up is scroll through my phone. I know it's not healthy to check e-mail as soon as you wake up, but it's usually the first thing I do. During the week, I get morning news briefings from the New York Times and the Skimm straight to my inbox (as a journalism major, I always like to start my day with a healthy dose of news). I also do a lot of my social media updates for the blog during this stage in my day.

10:00 AM - After tweeting and pinning some of my favorite bloggers' newest posts for you guys to enjoy, I make my way downstairs to the bathroom (at my mom's house, my room is the third floor of the house...well, condo) and get ready to start my day.

First thing in the morning, I put in my contacts, brush my teeth, and wash my face - not too exciting; just basic stuff that any girl does. As you can see from the picture above, I'm not overly picky about what products I put on my face. Currently, I'm using Target brand apricot scrub (aka the cheaper version of the St. Ives cult favorite) and Pond's dry skin cream on my face. Whenever my skin starts to flare up (usually around my period), I'll also use 10% benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment. I have combination oily-dry skin, so I try to use this treatment sparingly and combine it with a richer moisturizer, such as the Pond's skin cream, to counteract any flakiness.

Every once in awhile, I'll also use a mask on my face. My favorite is the Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra Cleansing Mud Mask, but I also like to pick up masks from the drugstore - I love anything with avocado in it. Sometimes, I'll even get Ryan in on it, and we'll grab face masks and charcoal pore strips and have a spa night together in front of the TV!

10:15 AM - After I finish washing my face, I head downstairs to the living room and have a quick breakfast in our comfy armchair. Today, I had a whole wheat bagel, not toasted, with cream cheese. Bagels are my favorite, so it really made my day when my mom told me she had picked some up for me since she knew I was coming home.

Most mornings, I also take a multivitamin and a probiotic, but today I forgot :( Currently, I'm taking the Trader Joe's Woman's Multivitamin and Target brand probiotic capsules (basically the same as the Culturelle supplement). Even though I try to eat my fruits and veggies, I still love supplements because they make up for any areas where I might be lacking. Plus, when it comes to probiotics, good gut health is so important, as it's an area we always tend to neglect!

10:30 AM - I hop in the shower. While I've been home, I'm just using whatever shampoo and conditioner my family has in there already, but at school, I've been using the Garnier Fructis Grow Strong shampoo and conditioner, and the St. Ive's body scrub. When I shave, I usually just use water, especially on delicate areas where my skin is quite sensitive; however, on my legs, I always use Target brand shaving cream. I love it because it smells like strawberries!

After my shower, I dress in one of my favorite sweaters that I bought from Primark for $8.00. The navy blue color compliments my skin tone, and the gold buttons add a gorgeous accent that makes the sweater look a lot more expensive than it was, TBH.

I don't wear makeup every morning, but today my skin's not looking so hot (I'm supposed to get my period any day now), so since I'm not in a rush, I decide to put some on as a confidence-booster. Pictured above are all the products I wear on a regular basis. Here they are listed from left to right:

  • Naked on the Run Palette: This palette comes with everything from lip gloss to mascara to eyeshadow, which is what makes it so perfect for being on-the-go! However, I usually use it just for the blush and bronzer shades.
  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte Foundation: Because my skin is so oily in places, I love a good high-coverage foundation that won't leave my face shiny. That's why this matte foundation is so perfect for my skin type.
  • Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment: I got this as a birthday gift from Sephora when I was maybe 14 or 15, and I loved it so much that I had to buy the full size when I ran out. I've used it ever since for a my-lips-but-better lip color. Bonus points for wintertime hydration!
  • Sephora Collection Makeup Brushes: I used to apply my foundation with disposable sponges until I got this brush set for Christmas. The girl working at Sephora recommended them to my mom as the perfect gift - and they were! I love having a set of durable makeup brushes that last.
  • BareMinerals Lash Domination Mascara: This mascara thickens, lengthens, and darkens like no other. I've tried a bunch of other mascaras in my time as a beauty connoisseur, but none have ever compared to this one for me. I think it has something to do with the hourglass shape of the brush - but whatever the reason, I'm loyal to BareMinerals and don't think I can ever go back.
  • Touch in Sol Browza Super Proof Gel Brow Pencil: I only just started filling in my brows last year, but now it's become such a staple in my makeup routine that I don't know what I'd do without it. I used to use the Anastasia pencil until I lost it, so now I've gone back to the Browza one that my friend bought me for Christmas a year or two ago.
  • Milani Liquid Liner: This liner is one of those drugstore secrets that you won't believe until you try it yourself. I bought it for a Halloween costume a couple of years ago and just started using it in my daily routine. I love how creamy the formula is and how easy the fine-tipped pen is to apply. Fun tip: I always apply my eyeliner with my eyes open, not closed, for a thinner line!
  • Naked Basics Palette: This palette has the perfect everyday shades of eyeshadow. I like them as contour shades for the crease and outer corners of my eyelids because they're matte, so they soften an intensely-pigmented, sparkly shade.
  • Benefit Boi-ing Concealer: Real talk, but this high-coverage concealer is perfect for hiding everything from dark circles to hickeys. After using Benefit's thick, creamy formula, I don't think I can ever go back. Another pro tip: always apply your concealer before your foundation to let it set for the highest coverage!
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Midnight Cowboy: I got this eyeshadow as a birthday gift from Ulta and immediately fell in love! My only advice is to use this color sparingly, as it's highly pigmented and will leave glitter all over your cheeks if you aren't careful (trust me, I learned this the hard way).
  • Sephora Collection Things Are Looking Up Eyelash Curler: If you aren't already using an eyelash curler, start now, because it will truly change your life. I bought this uniquely-shaped eyelash curler with a gift card to Sephora. The design is based off Japanese products, and makes an amazing travel item to tuck away in your purse or bag because of it's compact, fold-in handle.
These are the products I used to create my makeup look for this morning. Here's what the finished look, well, looks like!

My finished make-up look. Please ignore my uncomfortable expression/PMS acne.

11:00 AM - Because it's Wednesday, it's that time of the week again that I need to pack up and head to my dad's house! Also, because I'm at his house through Christmas morning, I need to go grocery shopping for the rest of the week. So, I pack up all my clothes and beauty products, hug my mom goodbye, and head over to Shaw's. Ryan is meeting me there!

We'll buy the bulk of our groceries there to save money, then head back to my house to put the groceries away and carpool to Whole Foods, where we can buy some specialty items to sort of spice up our diet. I'm a vegetarian, so namely I'm excited to head over and buy the Beyond Meat chicken strips, since Whole Foods is the only place where I can get them!

Afternoon

12:00 Noon -  Grocery shopping, round one, takes about forty-five minutes as we traipse through the store picking up healthy groceries and produce. We've also run into one of Ryan's friends working there and spent a few minutes talking to him. Now that we're finally home, it's time to put away the groceries so we can head to Whole Foods - but before we put them away, I make Ryan help me lay them out so I can show them to y'all!

Ryan actually took the above photo of our groceries - he's a much better amateur photographer than I am. Disclaimer: I'm on a health kick lately, so this is not what my grocery bags normally look like. However, here's the list of what we got at Shaw's anyways! I love Shaw's because it has a robust natural food section, but you can probably find most of these items at your local grocery store or market regardless. From left to right:

  • Broccoli: For me, broccoli is one of those staple veggies to stick in the microwave whenever a meal needs a little extra green. I'm actually quite a picky eater - even as a vegetarian, I don't like many vegetables - but oddly enough, broccoli is one of the few green vegetables I actually like!
  • Sweet potatoes: Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite healthy foods. I especially love to spice them up with chipotle powder and Mrs. Dash's chicken seasoning, then toss them in the pan and cook them until they're crispy.
  • Honey: I love honey for everything from tea to yogurt. However, this honey I bought specifically so I could make lemon honey viniagrette for a Greek salad I'm planning on making later this week.
  • Plain yogurt: Greek yogurt is my favorite, but if I buy it Greek-style, Ryan won't eat it. So, to help the groceries go faster when he's over at my house, I gave in and bought the normal-style yogurt. I'm planning on eating this for breakfast with berries, honey, and maybe a spoonful of chia seeds or dark chocolate chips.
  • Coffeemate Natural Bliss Coffee Creamer in Salted Caramel: If you haven't tried this coffee creamer yet, you're missing out! I hesitate to call it "healthy" because it's still loaded with sugar, but it's definitely a better alternative to the normal Coffeemate that's loaded with the preservatives. Plus, I promise, the rich salted caramel flavor will give you the best iced coffee you've ever tasted in your life!
  • Ben and Jerry's Half-Baked Frozen Yogurt: This was honestly an impulse buy. Ryan likes to share sweet things when we're watching Netflix or TV at my house, so I convinced him to go for the froyo instead of the ice cream for a lighter alternative.
  • Quinoa: I. LOVE. QUINOA. I make it in the microwave and stick it on salads at school all the time, but while I'm home, I'm planning on using it to make vegetarian mock "meatballs" to go with some whole wheat fettuccine.
  • Red onion: These were the biggest onions I have ever seen in my life! Ryan's friend who works at Shaw's even brought us a new crate of onions to look through, but all of them were equally huge. I guess there's nothing left to do now but be thankful that this onion will get me through many days of Greek salads.
  • Raspberries and blackberries (stacked): I've been obsessed with berries lately. You can't get them in the dining halls at school, so I've been snagging a box every time I go to the convenience or grocery store. In Boston, they're uber expensive, so I couldn't believe how cheap they were when I got back home and snagged them for just a couple dollars each!
  • Cucumber: I could go either way on cucumbers most of the time, but they're a pretty mild flavor, so it's a great veggie to just sneak into a salad. Especially when paired with some feta cheese on a Greek salad, I love the refreshing crunch!
  • Feta cheese: Feta is probably my favorite food in the entire world. I cannot stop eating feta cheese. In fact, feta cheese alone is probably 80% of the reason that I am not vegan. (The other 20% is my lack of willpower, of course.) I'm planning on using a healthy dose of this as the finishing touch on my Greek salad this week.
  • Whole wheat fettuccine: Ryan hates when I buy whole wheat pasta, but I couldn't help but spring for the healthier option this week! We're using this to make spaghetti and mock "meatballs" for dinner tonight once we both get home.
  • Steam-in-bag brown rice: I eat brown rice by the bagful, but I almost always take the easy way out when it comes to making it. Whenever I cook it in the microwave myself, it winds up over- or under-cooked. So, I compensate by buying the frozen, steam-in-bag option instead! It's so easy, no one - not even me - could mess it up.
  • Romaine lettuce: I don't like many leafy greens, but iceberg lettuce is a bit watery for my tastes, so I sprung for the Romaine instead. Hopefully, this will help me pack a few more extra vitamins and minerals in this week!
  • Lemon juice: Using this to make honey lemon vinaigrette later this week! I'm always a fan of fresh lemon when you can swing it, but the juice was only $0.99, so I gave in.
  • Roasted garlic hummus: Believe it or not, Ryan actually picked this out as a healthy snack we could both share when he comes over. I got him hooked on the Trader Joe's garlic hummus and now he's all about scooping it up on crackers.
  • Guacamole: Guacamole is my FAVORITE food. I love to eat it on organic blue corn chips, or use it to top my homemade burrito bowls. The Yucatan Organic Guacamole is my favorite for its crisp lime tang.

1:00 PM - After putting away our groceries, me and Ryan hop in my yellow Volkswagen Beetle and I drive us to Whole Foods. We spend about twenty or thirty minutes grazing the aisles, but because we spent so much money at Shaw's already, we try to make it a quick trip. Here's what we picked up, from left to right:

  • Newman's Own Pink Lemonade: Ryan loves lemonade, so I couldn't stop him from picking up a carton of this all-natural flavor. He poured some in a glass as soon as he got home!
  • 365 Organic Unsweetened Green Tea: I rediscovered my love of tea after watching some of Nikki Philippi's Tea Talk videos on YouTube during finals week. Lately, I've been getting into the iced variety - but I try to curb my sugar intake by either brewing it myself or buying the unsweetened kind.
  • Organic Black Bean Tortilla Chips: Ryan and I went between blue corn chips (which are usually my favorite) and the black bean ones, and finally we decided to try something new. I love black beans and quickly discovered that I love these chips just as much! The flavor is subtle, but interesting - plus, they're totally healthy.
  • Back to Nature Multiseed Rice Thins: Ryan picked these crunchy crackers out for his hummus. I love the Back to Nature brand, and we both love the sweet and salty crunch of rice thins, so these were the perfect combination for both of us!
  • Muir Glen Organic Tomato Sauce: Can you believe these tiny cans of tomato sauce were just $0.99 - and organic? This is why I love Whole Foods! It can get a little pricey, but every once in awhile, you find a steal that makes it all worth it.
  • Beyond Chicken Southwest Flavor: As a vegetarian, I can honestly say that Beyond Chicken is the best meat substitute I have ever tried. Nothing captures that crispy texture quite like it - I've even gotten Ryan, a relentless carnivore, hooked on it! We love sticking these strips in salads, but today we're using them to make sweet potato and brown rice bowls.
  • Justin's Hazelnut Butter and Peanut Butter with Honey packets: The Justin's nut butters are so delicious - and as someone who loves to eat peanut butter straight from the jar, I honestly plan on squeezing this packet right into my mouth. The hazelnut butter is for Ryan (though I've had it before, and it's an amazing dupe for Nutella) and the peanut butter with honey is for me.

1:30 PM - We pull into the driveway and unpack the groceries for a photograph. Then, we call the dogs inside, but discover we need to take a quick detour to pull one of them out of the neighbor's yard when only one comes in.

At my dad's house, we have two collies - Scout and Violet. When I'm there, taking care of them is a huge part of my day. Scout wasn't wearing his shock collar when he went outside, so he crossed the electric fence and ran into the neighbor's yard while we were gone. You should have seen the look of shame on his face as he walked inside...we give them both bones to distract them while we decide to cook lunch. Surprisingly, they lay right down and actually behave!

1:45 PM - We poured some drinks into glasses - green tea for me; pink lemonade for Ryan - and snack on chips and guac/crackers and hummus while cooking lunch. We've decided to throw together a quick, healthy "burrito bowl" with the brown rice, Beyond Meat chicken, and sweet potatoes.

Ryan handles the potatoes, chopping them up into cubes and seasoning them with Mrs. Dash's chicken seasoning (which is a nice, spicy mix that's great for potatoes), chipotle powder, paprika, and garlic salt. Then, he tosses them in a pan with a healthy dose of olive oil and fries them until they're crispy.

Meanwhile, in a smaller pan, I fry up the Beyond Meat until it's crispy on both sides, using just a touch of olive oil. I also toss the brown rice in the microwave to cook for about four minutes, until it's nice and steaming hot. Once the mock meat's nice and fried, I take it out and use a fork and knife to gently saw it into cubes. Then, once the rice and potatoes are done, we assemble our bowls and sit down at the kitchen counter to enjoy our healthy lunch!

2:15 PM - I want to work on writing up my blog post now that we've taken all these photos of our groceries, but first it's important to me to spend time with Ryan, since he'll have to leave for his final soon. So, we sit down on the couch with our drinks and cuddle in front of an episode of one of our favorite shows, House of Cards. We get into a joking argument once I find out that he's gone ahead and watched the episode already without me, but then I'm sucked into the storyline and can't think of why I'm mad anyways!

3:00 PM - After House of Cards ends, I grab my laptop and upload my photos from the day. Ryan and I throw on Sky High, a movie we both used to like when we were kids, in the background while I work on writing my blog post.

4:00 PM - Ryan has to leave to commute to college so he can present a final project for one of his classes. He still has some finishing touches to put on the project, so even though he'll get there a little bit early, he's happy to have the extra time to work on it.

Meanwhile, I have about 40 minutes until I need to leave to go to dance class, so I keep working on my blog post until then. Usually, writing doesn't take me this long, but this day in the life post is turning out to be much more in-depth than most of the other Blogmas posts I've been putting together recently!

4:45 PM - I'm running a little bit late for dance! I fill up a water bottle and grab my clothes and shoes, making sure to snap a quick picture before I get in the car. Then, I make the 30 minute drive to Waltham in some downright crappy traffic :(

Night

5:20 PM - I'm running late for class! I head into the studio and change, then sit down for a quick stretch before Annie (my dance teacher) starts to teach me some new choreo. She wants me and a couple of other girls who graduated to perform in the recital as part of a lyrical dance with one of her smaller classes, so we're just starting to learn that stuff now.

6:15 PM - Roughly around 6:15, that class ends as her next class comes in. I'm not dancing with this class, as it's younger kids, so I leave to get a quick snack from the grocery store down the street. I grab a cookie dough Balance protein bar and a bottle of unsweetened green tea from Honest T. Then, I spend the rest of the break scrolling through social media on my phone.

7:15 PM - Maybe around 7:15, the class ends and pointe/ballet starts for the teens - that's where I hop in! Honestly, whenever I'm at dance, I completely lose track of time; all the classes just blur together. But I love it, and it's amazing exercise, so I'm more than happy to be back in the studio, especially since this is the last time I'll be here until after Christmas.

We take a loooong stretch, complete with crunches and push-ups (yay, conditioning...). It feels absolutely ah-mazing to finally feel flexible again! Then, we follow up with some across-the-floor and practice a variety of leaps. I love the way my calypso to the floor looks, for maybe the first time ever - I'm happy to see those college dance classes have done me some good!

Finally, we put on our pointe shoes and learn a quick sequence. It's the first time in forever that I've worn them (literally since July), so my toes kill, but the shoes are nice and broken in, and it feels natural to be back on the box again. At the end of the night, I'm exhausted, but satisfied - not to mention starving! I can't wait to get home and whip up some dinner...

9:00 PM - Ryan meets me at home now that his final presentation is over - but first, before he gets here, I choreograph a quick sequence that I can teach my girls at camp this summer! Then, I do my daily meditation, only for four minutes tonight since I don't have much time. My therapist has me doing a daily meditation and rating my anxiety before and after every night as part of the "microjournaling" exercises she has me doing over break (more about that later!).

My dad is home from work now, too. We cook quinoa "meatballs" and whole wheat fettuccine (well, Ryan makes white pasta separately) with organic tomato sauce for dinner. Then, we eat it on the couch and watch Shark Tank as a family (plus one!) until my dad goes to bed.

11:00 PM - My dad goes to bed, so Ryan and I finally regain control of the TV. We cuddle and finish our movie, Sky High, from earlier. It's a cute Disney throwback to simpler times when we were only nine or ten!

12:00 AM - The movie ends and Ryan heads home to get some sleep for work in the morning. I head up to my room after kissing him goodbye, then plop down on my bed to do my microjournaling.

Basically, my therapist has me doing this exercise where I write down three things I'm grateful for, three things I've done today, and three goals I have for tomorrow. I'm also supposed to note my anxiety levels before and after meditation, and any triggers and coping skills I've discovered throughout the day. These exercises are meant to teach me to stay focused on the present moment instead of worrying about the future, and to pinpoint the cause of my anxiety. I can't be completely sure, but I feel like they really work.

Lately, I've also been adding in some other prompts of my own from a 30 day journaling challenge I found on Pinterest, in an attempt to get to know myself a bit better. Today, I'm writing about a person who inspires me, so I write about my dance teacher, who's inspired me to be a better dancer and taught me a lot about teaching my dance students at camp.

12:30 PM - After journaling, it's time to get ready for bed. Honestly, I spend more time than I'd like to scrolling through my phone before I actually get up to get ready, but when I finally do, I put on my penguin pajamas and head to the bathroom to clean my face.

First, I wipe off my makeup with a Neutrogena makeup remover wipe (I also love using Micellar water as a gentle makeup remover), take out my contacts, and follow the same cleansing routine as I did in the morning. Then, I brush my teeth, use the bathroom, and text Ryan goodnight before crawling into bed! I leave my phone on at night - bad, I know - but always put it on do not disturb.

Some nights, anxiety keeps me awake later than I mean to stay up, but tonight, I'm so exhausted I fall asleep almost right away! And now, here I am the next day, writing this blog post. I hope you enjoyed it! :)

Tips for Holiday Stress Relief

This afternoon, after a week of intense studying and three grueling finals, I finally get to go home to spend Christmas with my family! Granted, I live only about 20 miles away from where I go to college (I'm from a tiny suburb outside of Boston), but I'm excited to get to spend a month close to some of the family and friends that I haven't seen in weeks.

However, as much as I love the holidays, I have to admit that the thought of being home for a month is just as nerve-wracking as it is exciting. Why, you might ask? Between the three blogs I've written since I was fifteen, I don't think I've ever shared this online, but here goes: my parents are divorced. Nowadays, that shouldn't seem like such a big deal. Something like 50% of marriages end in divorce these days, right? But that doesn't make it any easier for the kids and families who go through it, especially during the holiday season.

Growing up, other kids tended to assume that the holidays were somehow better because my parents weren't married anymore. And you can't really blame them - to a kid, two houses = two sets of presents. Many of my friends tried to tell me I was "lucky" because I got double the presents, but in reality, I would have given that up in a heartbeat to be able to have a big family Christmas. (Also, what they didn't know is that you actually don't get double the presents - you just get half the normal amount at each house.)

Now that I'm older, I still wish that I didn't have to have two separate Christmases, but some of that old sadness has been replaced by stress. Especially now that I'm in college and don't have to follow a custody schedule, I don't know how much time I should spend at each house, where I should eat dinner, or which house I should let my little brother open his present at.

And it's not just college kids from divorced families who have to go through holiday stress. Some of you might have ten or more family members cramped into a tiny house for the holidays. Some of you might have your long flight home cancelled by snow. Some of you just might not know what to get your boyfriend or brother or dad for Christmas (in which case, check out my Gift Guide for Him!).

Either way, the holidays aren't perfect. As much as we'd all like our Christmases to be like the ones we see on Pinterest and Instagram, sometimes, the holidays can be a bit more stressful than they are holly and jolly.

Thankfully, Christmas break is the perfect time to catch up on some self-care that you might have missed during the busy finals season! That's why today, I'm taking a (too short) study break to share with you five fun and festive ways that you can relieve your stress during the holidays. I've even taken the liberty of labeling them with some of my favorite Christmas lyrics to hopefully spread a little instant holiday cheer :)

Deck the Halls

Is it just me, or is decorating the Christmas tree one of the most relaxing parts of Christmas? There's something so therapeutic about the ritual of hanging ornaments from every bough, perching that wreath on the front door, and wrapping tinsel garland around the stair rail. Plus, I always feel more relaxed when my environment is beautiful and put-together. So, one afternoon, drive yourself out to your local Target Dollar Spot, pick up some cute 'n' cheap decorations, and lock yourself in your room for a couple of hours. Turn your room into a winter wonderland that you can use to get away from it all, whether the problem is that your family's getting into an argument about opening presents on Christmas Eve or that you can't listen to that damn carol one more time.

Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire

This song conjures the best sights, sounds, and smells of cozying up by the flickering fireplace. In my opinion, it's impossible to feel stressed out when you're thinking about that. Even if you don't have a fireplace in your house, you can capture that warm and cozy feeling with a wintry meditation practice. Put on your softest socks and your thickest infinity scarf, wrap up in an electric blanket, and nestle a hot mug of cocoa or tea between your fingers. Sip your drink mindfully and just take a moment to bask in the winter warmth. If you're really missing that glimmering flicker of flames, download the meditation app Calm, which comes with a soothing fireplace scene to watch and listen to.

The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer...

...is singing loud for all to hear! It turns out that Buddy the Elf knew that he was talking about. Research shows that music has incredible power to release stress by slowing our heart rate, lowering our blood pressure, and diminishing those awful hormones. That explains why jamming in your car to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" always makes you feel so zen. So, next time the holiday stress starts to get to you, don't be afraid to turn on your favorite Christmas carols and start belting them out! You can even get friends and family involved, and turn your stress relief sesh into a full-blown impromptu Christmas bash.

May Your Days Be Merry and Bright

Believe it or not, the dim winter months can even lead to depression in some people, known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. However, the kind of light we use is just as important as having light at all. Studies show that bright, fluorescent lights can lead to intense mood swings, while soft lighting offers more emotional stability. So, according to science, the solution for ending family drama this holiday season could be as simple as turning down the lights and letting the soft glow of the tree illuminate your home! What better excuse to go to Target and stock up on white Christmas lights?

Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?

Finally, getting active boosts your endorphins and helps you focus on something besides all that stress and anxiety. Unfortunately, if you live in a cold winter climate like I do (that 60-degree day yesterday aside), you know that the thought of driving to the gym feels impossible when there's six feet of snow on the ground. Thankfully, there's a solution to your wintertime woes. Instead of giving up on exercise altogether, turn to some of your favorite snow day activities from when you were a kid. Ice skating on a local pond, rolling snow piles into families of snowmen, and hiking up a huge hill just to sled down are just as valid forms of exercise as lifting weights or running on the treadmill. Get your snow pants on, not your gym shoes, and get ready for the funnest workout of your life!

The Mystery Blogger Award

I was so excited to see that Isabelle from Truly Indulgent had nominated me to receive the Mystery Blogger Award! There I was, innocently scrolling through my comments, when I saw her nomination. Thanks so much Isabelle for your sweet comments and for nominating me to receive this award.

As I just learned, the Mystery Blogger Award was started by blogger Okoto Enigma as a way for bloggers to connect with one another and extend their support. I think it's such an incredible way for us bloggers to build community, and I am so excited that I get to be a part of it!

Once you're nominated, here's how the challenge works:

  1. Put the award logo on your blog.
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Also mention the creator of the award and provide a link to their blog as well.
  5. Tell your readers three things about yourself.
  6. Nominate 10-20 other bloggers.
  7. Notify each of your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  8. Ask your nominees any five questions of your choice, including one weird or funny question!
  9. Share the links to your best post(s).

So, now that you've seen the rules and procedures, let's jump right in!

About Me

I am one of two Associate City News Editors at the Daily Free Press.

I joined the Daily Free Press in September, when I started my freshman year at BU. As a journalism major and an aspiring writer, the paper has become a huge part of my college experience. I've met most of my closest friends there, and had the opportunity to cover some really interesting and emotional stories. For example, I recently wrote an article about the demolition of a garden at Boston Children's Hospital, and wound up having a 40 minute conversation with one of my sources simply because I was so interested by his organization!

Next semester, I'll be taking over as one of two Associate City News Editors, and will have the opportunity to assign and edit stories and develop close relationships with the writers I work with. I couldn't be more excited, since my own associates have taught me pretty much everything I know about news writing - I can't wait to mentor new writers the way that they mentored me!

I blog about fashion and beauty (because I love it), but in real life, my style is very low-key!

Don't get me wrong, I love to read and write about fashion and beauty. I'm obsessed with skin care products, I ask for makeup every Christmas, and I could easily shop 'til I dropped, if only I had the money.

But let's get real here: when I wake up in the morning and stumble out of bed thirty minutes before class, I just don't have the time for winged liner or a cute dress with thousands of buttons. Most days, my daily uniform is leggings and a long-sleeve tee shirt. Living in Boston in the winter, I tend to prioritize being warm and comfy over looking like I just stepped out of Vogue. And if I'm being completely honest, I'd rather not go through the effort of putting on makeup just to go to statistics. I wear it over the weekends or whenever I see Ryan, and that's about it.

I'm not telling you this to make you feel like I'm a fraud, but rather that to show you that fashion and beauty blogs, while super fun, don't always give a realistic portrayal of how you should live your life! I put together gift guides under $50 for Christmas because I thought it would be fun to write and make for an exciting read, but in real life, I don't even have $50 in my checking account. Chances are, most college girls don't! So, don't feel bad when you read your favorite style or beauty blogs and see all the luxurious, glamorous tips and products. Behind the scenes, I'm struggling to get up for my 9 AMs just like you are.

My dream for my Etsy store is to start offering web templates and custom design services.

Right now, my Etsy store is all about the cute, classy printables, but eventually I'd like to cover more ground by venturing into web design as well! I taught myself to code, a process that began when I was thirteen and is still in progress today, and it's one of the parts of running a blog that I am most passionate about. In fact, I designed the Blogger template I use on my website practically from scratch!

Right now, I'm in the process of building web resumes for Ryan and myself. (Pro tip for journalism majors: maintain an online portfolio of all your work!) With that project on top of finals and everything else, I'm not sure I have the time right now to devote to making my dream come true. However, it is definitely a goal I have for 2017 to get some web templates up and running in my Etsy store (and maybe another top secret project, too!), and to eventually start offering custom services as well.

Isabelle's Questions

Who is your favorite celebrity and why?

I'm going to cheat and say it's a tie. There are so many amazing, inspiring women in Hollywood these days, but I've narrowed it down to Anna Kendrick and Emma Watson. I love everything Anna Kendrick does and wears, and her bold sense of humor showed me that women don't have to be polite and demure to achieve great success. As for Emma Watson, I'm obviously in love with her wardrobe, but I just can't get enough of the incredible work she's done with the UN to help women achieve global gender equality.

What is your biggest goal in life?

I love this question - I have so many goals! (As you can see, I'm also very indecisive.) However, there are two that I've had since I was young that I would never be able to pick between:

First, as a journalist, the loftiest goal I have is winning a Pulitzer Prize. While I understand that it's nearly impossible for all the journalists out there to warrant that level of success, I want to be one of the best. More than that, I think winning that award would show that my work had risen to a level of impact and importance where it truly made a difference in people's lives.

Secondly, I have always wanted to become a published author! I'm currently working on a novel that I've been writing (and re-writing) since I was a sophomore in high school. Someday, I'd like to see my name printed on that glossy cover, just below the words "New York Times Bestselling Author."

How will you be celebrating the holidays this year?

Unfortunately, I have no special plans at the moment - besides sleeping, of course, which has come to be a bit of a rarity in my life at college. The one tradition I'll be taking part in this Christmas that's a little out of the ordinary for me is that my friends and I from home are going to be doing a Secret Santa swap. We set a gift limit of $5.00 and matched ourselves up using a generator that emails you all the info you need!

Name five things that make you happy.
  1. Cheesy romantic comedies
  2. Friendly dogs
  3. 50s diners
  4. Iced coffee
  5. The library
Would you rather never be able to put nail polish on your nails or your toes?

My fingernails. Despite chipping my toenail polish every time I put on my dance shoes, I never remember to paint my fingernails. When I do, it usually chips in an hour anyways. Plus, getting pedicures is one of the special ways my mom and I like to spend time together when I'm home!

The Perfect Gift Guide for Him (Christmas 2016)

Welcome back for Day Eight of Blogmas! Today, I'm sharing another gift guide chock-full of ideas for what to get your guy.

I don't know about you, but I always find that the men in my life are the hardest people to shop for around Christmastime. Whether it's Ryan, my dad, or my brother (though admittedly, at twelve years old, he's hardly a man), I can never figure out what to get any of them for the holidays. I think part of the problem is that all the men I know always seem to want gifts that are practical, while I think of gifts as something you want rather than something you need.

Thankfully, I've made both of our lives a little easier this year by putting together this gift guide to help you shop for the hardest guy on your list (dirty joke unintended). From high-end splurges to thoughtful saves, you'll find nine gifts perfect for every man and every budget.

Gifts for Him

Splurges

VR One Plus Virtual Reality Glasses
Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the new virtual reality trend has been all guys can talk about lately. To be completely honest, I'm not exactly a tech wizard, but I know this is what my twelve-year-old brother wants for Christmas, so it must be the latest and greatest. This virtual reality headset is compatible with all those new smartphone games and augmented reality apps you've been reading about. Get it on sale for $99.99 while you still can. Available at Target.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic Camera
I got an Instax Mini polaroid camera for Christmas two years ago, and it's one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. Granted, the film is a little bit pricey, but for the quality vintage photographs they produce (and instantly, too!), I think it's 110% worth the money. For $200, this brown leather design evokes thoughts of 70s glamour and is perfect for the aspiring photog in your life. Available at Urban Outfitters.

Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum Gaming Headset in Black
We all know that boyfriend, best friend, or brother that can't be torn away from his computer screen. Again, tech isn't my specialty, but I'm told by my game geek boyfriend that Logitech is one of the best companies in the business. These $139.99 headphones come with a wireless range of up to 32 inches, programmable game controls and 7.1 Dolby surround sound (whatever that means). Available at Best Buy.

Levis Flannel Sherpa Trucker Jacket in Grey
Not every man loves getting clothes for Christmas, but Ryan loves it, and I'm sure you know someone who does, too. This plush trucker jacket from Levis features cozy cotton flannel, Sherpa lining, and a snap-button closure. Keep your favorite guy warm this winter for $129 (+ 25% off for a limited time only). Available at Urban Outfitters.

Saves

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men 1.7 Oz Spray
I'm probably biased, because this is the cologne my boyfriend wears, but as a woman, let me tell you: I think this is one of the best smells in the world, right behind baking bread. This scent has many layers, with notes of mandarin, lavender, basil and sandalwood, among others. For $62.00, buy this for any man whose chest you'd like to nuzzle - dare I say, for eternity. Available at Macy's.

Men's Society Beard Grooming Kit
Give him the gift of fresh, clean facial hair this Christmas. For 25.00 pounds (sorry, you'll have to convert to dollars yourself), this beard grooming kit comes with mustache wax, Vitamin E beard oil, a stainless steel comb and scissors. Get it for the well-kept gentleman in your life, or any guy you'd like to send a subtle hint to. Available at Men's Society.

Native Union Clic Wooden iPhone 6 Case in Black
What guy isn't glued to his phone? This iPhone 6 case from Native Union features genuine walnut timber, sanded down to smooth perfection, as well as stylish black accents. Gift this $48.00 case to the guy who'd never be caught dead with the same outfit as any of his friends. Available at Amara.

Leather Candle
This fresh leather scent is a people-pleaser for guys and girls alike. Each of these leather candles from Shoppe 815 boasts an 80-hour burn time and has a unique package with a one-of-a-kind, handmade appearance. Buy one for your guy this Christmas for just $32.00. Available at Jaxon Home.
